Here's a sweetheart of a story about the power of LOVE and TEA! On a cold Valentines Day they will both warm you to your core...
This happened long ago in the early days when Tea Market was very quiet. I’ve told this story before, but a good love story stands timeless and always bears repeating. And it starts as most of my stories do…
A lady came into the shop one day, she was in her early 80’s, small, gentle with bright shining eyes that met mine with wisdom and confidence. She was looking for a tea pot, not just any tea pot, but a tea pot that would be hers alone. We had a long chat that day about many things, it was close to Valentine’s Day and she began to tell me about her husband who had recently passed and the 60 years they had shared together. And, how a tea pot helped solve all their quarrels throughout their legacy marriage. I couldn’t imagine such a thing and I asked a simple question, how? This is what she told me;
“I married quite young, to a wonderful young man I hardly knew, you see dear, that’s how we did it in my day. I was barely a young woman and had no idea how to be a wife. I found out my new husband also had no idea how to be a husband. We loved each other very much and created what became a wonderful life. But even the best relationships have their difficult moments. We didn’t fuss and carry on like young people do now-a-days, we had respect. Respect for one another, the sacred covenant of marriage and we prized peace above all selfish wants in our home. We drank tea together every single day from a tea pot we received as a wedding gift. We didn’t know how to quarrel, and we were both stubborn and, “I’m sorry” didn’t come naturally to either of us. We fell into a quiet and dignified way to bring us back to love. If we argued, the person who wanted to say, “I’m sorry”, but couldn’t find the words, simply made tea. And if the other smiled and drank the tea, the apology was accepted. The quarrel was never revisited, we simply put those cares aside and chose love. Having tea together always brought us back to us.”
I can’t even remember if she even bought a new tea pot or not, but the story still warms my heart and hope it warms yours too.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
xo,
Stacie
